“Where two or three are gathered in My name, there am I”
It was in the late 1940’s that a local Council of the Knights of Columbus formed in Los Alamos, along with the Altar Rosary Society. In time the Ladies Auxiliary Group formed, as a group that works closely with the Knights of Colombus. A need was seen to help families that have experienced the loss of a loved one, so the Funeral Committee was formed to support families at the time of the loss of a loved one, focusing on providing a meal in the Parish Hall (Karen McLaughin Hall) after the Funeral Mass.
In 1972 with the leadership of Fr. Stopa the Christian Concerns Committee was formed in the Parish this Committee is led by the laity of the Parish, and it is active in helping the poor and needing of our day with generous donations from the Parishioners of the Parish. Since the start of the Christian Concerns Committee, members of the Parish have been looking for ways to reach out and help others. Today we have the Angel Tree for Christmas, where members of the parish will take a card from the Christmas Tree in the Narthex of the Church, the card has a gift item for a child in need. Each year hundreds of Children in Northen New Mexico have a brighter Christmas due to the generosity of the members of our Parish. Two Soup Kitchens are also helped by our Parish and bags for the homeless are provided by our Parish, through the active leadership and involvement of the laity of the Parish. The children in our Religious Education Program, with the help of Parishioners, provide Food Baskets at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
While Fr. John Carney was the Pastor several couples saw a need for supporting the married couples in the parish, so Teams of Our Lady was started, which is a movement focused on Catholic Marriage Spirituality which brings together couples united by the Sacrament of Matrimony. In time an active Lay Dominican Group became a part of the Parish, a Charismatic Prayer Group started, and the Flame of Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary prayer group has a presence in the Parish. Today we have a Chapter of the Society of Catholic Scientists in Los Alamos, and they collaborate with the Parish on brining speakers to town and Parish to speak about faith and science.
At the start of the year 2025, members of the Parish were wondering if more could be done at our Parish, so they met with the Pastor to explore possibilities, of what could be done. From these meetings and time for prayer came the Family Life Ministry, that has a focus on a monthly Holy Hour that is open to everyone. Coffee with the Padre after the Monday Morning Mass, and the St. Joseph Helpers Ministry, which is focused on bringing members of the Parish together to help with the needs of the physical plant of the Parish. These three new ministers provide parishioners an opportunity to pray, build community and grow in faith.
